The Kitchen
|
These are the kitchen cabinets I made from wood pieces and various parts taken from Tomy dollhouse kitchen furniture (such as the sink and stove). |
|
A shot of a meal in progress. I hadn't hung the upper cabinets or permanently installed this lower set in this pic. I wanted to make sure I had them just right before I glued them in. |

My mom gave me this beautiful table for my birthday. Here it is, all set for an upcoming meal. |

I designed and built this island for my kitchen. It has a glazed tile countertop made from miniature tiles I purchased at "The Gingerbread House" dollhouse and train shop in Greensboro NC. They were unglazed 3/8" tiles, but I fixed that! It's kind of hard to see the detail of the tiles in this picture. Above the island hangs a 2002 Hallmark Christmas ornament entitled "Christmas in the Kitchen 2002".....to the horror of any Hallmark collector, I seriously bashed this ornament to make it work for my purpose! I snipped the metal top off , then bent the thing into an oval shape as opposed to round, as it was. I took off a couple of the pots and pans that came with it and replaced them with a couple of my own, then I added the chain to hang it with. |

After purchasing at least 3 refrigerators on Ebay and never finding just the "right" one, I finally broke down and bought this kit from Hobby Builders Supply, made by Houseworks. It has lots of parts and took a while to put together. It looks so much better in my modern kitchen than any of the three I previously purchased. The doors and hinges of the fridge are attached with miniature nails, and the holes for the nails are pre-drilled in the wood. Two things about this....it was easy to put the nails in, I could pretty much push them in with the flat side of a pair of pliers. The downside is that, because the holes are pre-drilled, the nails loosen when the doors are opened and shut. I am going to take it apart and put some loc-tite in the holes and then push the nails back in....can't have the doors falling off! |

I finally got around to making curtains for all the windows. I saw a pair of kitchen curtains almost exactly like these in the HBS catalog.....I had some red-checked material scraps in my craft box, so I thought I'd have a go at making some like the ones in the catalog to fit my windows. The color doesn't really match my kitchen, but who says everything has to match? I like the red!! It's bright and cheerful, and these are my favorite curtains out of all the ones I made. |

Notice the snowy scene outside? That is my front yard (with a little help from Corel Photo-Paint!) |
|
Here is another view of the kitchen. I still have a barstool to make (and this one to finish) for the breakfast area. I think this will be cute once I am all finished! |
