   The Front Porch
front of house....then

I had a nice-sized porch as a child at my parents' house...and I currently do not have a front porch.... so, the more I looked at this house, the more I wanted to add a porch. I have to admit, looking at it from the front, it really needs something!

I spent a day with the jigsaw, a measuring tape, paint, lots of glue and even more patience to get this triangle-shaped thing to work.

The beginning of the porch
One side up successfully!

I never knew how much math makes a difference! I had to use geometry, algebra, and fractions to figure out how to cut the roofs to slant at the angle I wanted, and still fit plumb with the triangle in the middle of the porch.

Here you can see I've successfully gotten both slanted roofs to work with the triangle...I can't believe it! And it took me 2 evenings to shingle the porch, but it looks better than it did before shingles!

Second roof worked....whew!!
Got some rails up!

It took me a whole week of evenings after work to get these rails completed. Again, lots of measuring, sanding, drilling, and painting.

The house is transformed with this porch.....I am so proud of it!

Porch.....almost there!
I had so much fun building this swing!

I spent several evenings making and painting this swing. The chain is made from an old necklace. I painted the swing to resemble the green metal porch furniture a lot of people I know had in the late 70's and early 80's. I am going to make 2 chairs to match. thing to work.

I spent about 5 hours making the two pieces of lattice for the front of the porch. I still have to make side pieces and steps for the front and side.
