Here is where we chose to build the new storage building in our back yard. Believe it or not, this is the flattest part of the back yard! |
Here is the Ace Hardware truck delivering the lumber and cinderblocks for our building this morning, Sept. 15, 2003. |
Here is the lumber, all stacked up after being delivered. I had to move all of this lumber from the front yard to the back yard (because the Ace Hardware truck was too large to go back there!) Boy, was it some hard work getting all this stuff moved! |
There was a rather large tree in the way in the back yard that Chris had to cut down. Of course, neither chainsaw would crank. We hardly ever use them, but they've always cranked before! Of course, when time is of the essence the gas-powered tools never want to cooperate. In the end Chris had to cut this tree down with an old-fashioned hand saw. Now THAT was some work! Then we had to move the tree out of the way, so Chris hooked the tree up to the lawnmower (which we've used often in the past to move such things). Well, this tree was too big to move with the mower. |

So, we brought out the big guns. The Jimmy had no trouble moving the tree out of the way. |
Here is Chris walking around amongst the cinderblocks. We laid them on the ground first in the general vicinity of where the building is going to stand. |

Here we are in the middle of building the foundation frame. This building is going to be awesome! 24 feet long and 8 feet wide, initially. Then we are going to build a roof on the back side over the ground, and enclose it on 3 sides so we will have a sheltered place to park the farm tractor. |
Of course we had to have a storm just as we were working on the building. We managed to cover all the wood with plastic before it rained. After the storm, we went back outside and dug out the holes for the cinder blocks. Then we leveled the frame and squared it. Happily, after all the leveling we did, the frame was perfectly square. This picture was taken before the leveling was done. It grew dark outside so we had to quit for the evening. First thing in the morning we will finish the flooring and start on the walls! More pictures will be forthcoming tomorrow evening. |
